Great food, okay device, very crowded
I've been to many Japanese/sushi restaurants in California. Too many to count. Akane in my honest opinion is #1 in the Bay area, and I still have my favorite restaurant that I go to because of memories and such, but Akane is right there at the top with it. I recommend anyone to pay a visit and figure out what I mean for yourself. I hope your visit is as great as mine was.
Wonderful sushi. They have real, fresh wasabi. Delicious. We usually have an assortment of food and have never been disappointed. The only time was when we had to wait an hour for a table... no more, we only come here with a reservation from now on.We love it! Stay away it is hard enough to get a table as it is.
Very quiet lately
One of my preferred places to grab some food. convenient location, well kept, and very good service. 5 stars!
My favorite under-the-radar Japanese place. It isn't as crowded and busy as other Japanese places, especially those in the more popular downtown areas. It's Los Altos, after all, the city that always sleeps. You may have to wait on occasion, but typically it hasn't been much of a problem for me. Akane used to be Japanese-owned, but I don't know if it is anymore. It still retains its simple, homey feel, capped by the sushi bar that is festooned with square, bamboo sake cups. The service is good, but most (if not all) of the servers are not Japanese. They're generally very good about accommodating your preferences, and are definitely nice enough. But I wouldn't say service is "excellent". The sushi is great, because the fish is always fresh. The cooked dishes are good as well, and I recommend trying some of the small appetizers or side dishes.
My family and I have been going here for years and Francis the owner and her employees always give excellent customer service along with great food. My favorites dishes are: Nabeyaki Udon, fresh sushi, hamachi kama and for cold dishes we like the zaru soba.Parking is easy but waits can be longer on Fridays and Saturdays, so reservations are a good idea.
Great traditional sushi, always very fresh fish.
Porque La comida es rica y sushi es fresco. Numero 1!The food is so good and rich. The sushi made fresh, so good. Number 1 for sure!
Freshest sushi in the Bay area. Maguro and Sake are amazing here, nice colors and extremely fresh. Their Hamachi is also delicious and the rice and fish temperatures are on point. The tempura ice cream is the way to go to finish things off! :)
My sushi spot when I'm in the bay area. Great sushi and a nice clean interior. I would highly recommend the sushi here.
Probably the worst Japanese restaurant I've ever tried in the Bay Area. Expensive and so-so taste. Ordered a shabu hot pot and it was literally a few thin pieces of beef and cabbage in hot water costing nearly 20 dollars. Wife's order of udon wasn't with much flavor either. Definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone crave for authentic Japanese food.
We love going out. Yesterday we came to this superb place which friends told us about. We passed a delightful time there with fine cooking and an experienced crew and a professional cuisine. We put this venue in our list and we will definitely return soon. We highly recommend.
This place is certainly one of the best place in the region. Every time I go there I am remarkably glad. They keep their very high standard service and the highest level of cooking they provide. You surely will enjoy this this place. Highly recommended.
It’s great going to Akane, a great place for family or business. We love to sit at the Sushi bar and talk with the Chefs. The fish is always fresh. They have a variety of rolls and fish! We have been coming here since about 92, 93.
Good service, good food, but little selection. The staff was nice and food was fresh and tasty. There were no special rolls which I'm a fan of.
This a very good sushi place and the uni was 5 stars. It's is about as close to Tokyo as you can get and still stay in Los Altos...
Everything on the menu was great! I really enjoyed the hamachi sashimi and the otoro was amazing. The staff was attentive and friendly, prices were reasonable, and the food was top quality & fresh. Thanks!
This is nice casual spot for lunch, but there dinner menu is really awesome. All sorts of cool specialties to try.
This is the best sushi that I have ever found in the South Bay. It has consistently been the best for years, and I have been looking to find better but without result.
Food was good but the service was super slow. The staffs seemed to be more attentive to the regulars.
I stick to the veggie tempura, as I'm not a suishe eater ...but my friends really like it. We go there regularly!
Reasonably authentic Japanese in central Los Altos with efficient service. Only downside is the traditional Los Altos price premium ...
Local family run and friendly service
Excellent food and great service
The customer service is constantly fast, fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff members. Will visit again when I get in town.
Tip: Authentic sushi-ya located in the sleepy town of Los Altos. Order from a broad assortment of Nigiri (check the white board special) as well as cooked dishes, such as chawanmushi or Udon. For lunch, the Chirashi ($24) is a solid choice.
The crafted cut and presentation is what marks a fine sushi restaurant. Be prepared to enjoy this delicacy. Best in the bay.
My passion is mackerel in its various forms. Akane does a fabulous job on mackerel and many other menu items..
Best Sushi in the south bay
Have been here many times over the years and liked some of the dishes, such as Akane II rolls, tombo tataki, hamachi mama. However, I think over all it has not improved over time, rather it has gone backwards a few steps.
Nice place with great food.
Chicken karaage tastes very awesome, highly recommend. Dragon roll looks good but tastes a little bit dry. The service is pretty nice.
Our favorite restaurant. Great service, amazing food. We go to the rest. every week
Good prices and quality. Some of the best sushi in Los Altos.
Authentic, fresh, great variety, and elegant environment! Small dishes are highlights. Great price as well! Will visit more often.
Great food for a decent price. Really Japanese quality cuisine. Take out possible.
The chirashi was fantastic but the dragon roll left something to be desired. The place was packed and service was very slow. Expect a wait to get a table and food took almost an hour
FRANCIS the owner is extremely RUDE! It was my Mother's 80th birthday. I had been patronizing Akane for many years. I asked Francis if I could make a reservation for a party of 10. FRANCIS responded "NO" we only accept reservations for a maximum of 5. I said how about two tables of 5 then? FRANCIS responded "NO". I then said how about we make the reservation for when you first open and the restaurant is not crowded? FRANCIS again responded "NO". My guess is that if my name was "Steve Young" or "Harris Barton" or anyone else on her "A" List of patrons, the response would have been different. In these trying times of "Covid 19" I would prefer to support the Businesses that truly deserve our support.
Well balanced and tasty bento boxes! Yum
Excellent service and top quality food. Totally reliable.
Delicious food served beautifully and promptly. Asian decor and tasteful use of fabric baffles to keep the noise level down.
I really like the sushi here. The fish is always fresh. The best place is to sit at the sushi bar.The Japanese entrees are ok. I don't think it is that spectacular. So if you don't want to have sushi, this is not the place to go cuz it can be pretty expensive.Service is a hit or miss. If they are busy, then they really very slow. I don't think they are capable of handle full house. So if there are people waiting outside, my suggestion is to move to other place.
I get to eat here a lot since I work in the area. I love how the service is always awesome and they keep the spot neat all the time. Pricing is convenient and they serve generous portions.
Great food the chef has 30+ years experience
Busy, Chic place. The sushi rice is perfect, glistening little pearly nibbles of translucent rice. Special order dragon roll was stuffed with real crab. Don't let the waiter take your plate away too soon! Sushi meat was very fresh and delectable. It would be very easy to overeat here. Luckily, the pricing helps restrict bulging waists. Another place worth revisiting!
Great food and service, relaxing ambiance
This spot offers superb service as well as enjoyable menu. The best place in town. The food and drinks came out rapidly and the rates are affordable. I recommend this place.
Shrimp dumpings, Phill roll, white tuna sashimi and plum wine are my favorites here! The service is exceptional!
Very traditional Japanese. Los Altos staple.
